Tom Baker has posted Nick Courtney - The Brigadier is dead, "he was a wonderful companion and his friends would call each other or e-mail to relate the latest little stories of a night out with the Brig. He had a marvellous resonant voice which he used brilliantly when it was his turn to spin a yarn. And his background was fascinating too: born in Alexandria, Egypt, he was brought up speaking French and Arabic. Later he perfected English and after a few drinks he would speak in Latin tags to great comic effect, we shall miss him terribly......"

Shiny Shelf by Eddie Robson has Nicholas Courtney, "....the actor made a success of character, not the other way around. In ‘The Web Of Fear’ Lethbridge-Stewart is introduced as possibly an agent of the villain. Had he been played by someone else, the character might never have been picked up again. Instead Lethbridge-Stewart developed around Courtney’s performance and became an integral part of the show’s set-up in the early 1970s. UNIT stories without him don’t quite feel like UNIT stories: he was hard to replace...."
