You can now vote for 'Doctor Who' in the National Television Awards, it's a great shame they've added 'Sherlock' in the same category as many people will be torn between the two, thus making the true votes rather out of kilter.

The News...

Media_httpstaticguimc_mbgis

The Guardian has Critic's choice: Steven Moffat, when it comes to Doctor Who, Moffat admits that it's "entirely impossible" to escape the brouhaha that surrounds the show. "But it's not inhibiting at all – I love Doctor Who, so I love writing it. You are aware at times of the importance of Doctor Who to the BBC, but the remarkable thing about the audience isn't so much its size, which of course is considerable, but the passion of the fans", this year the episodes are to be split into two separate chunks, with seven in the spring, and six in the autumn, when Sherlock will also be returning to our TVs. It is not unlikely that Moffat will see his shows vying for accolades on BBC1.....

The Examiner has The top 10 Doctor Who moments of 2010, the regenerated Doctor Who series on BBC and BBC America has seen an incredible upswing in support and fanbase, thanks to Russell T. Davies' vision, Steven Moffat's writing, and the amazing range of Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. However, in 2010, it was Matt Smith's turn to drive the TARDIS, and the support has never been stronger, here are the top ten DW moments from 2010, at least in our opinion...

The Daily P.O.P. has Doctor Who Classics -The Seventies, what is a Doctor Who classic? To me a Doctor Who classic epitomizes its era, tells an intelligent and memorable story, has unusual visuals, and features above average performances. Doctor Who is the most mercurial and groundbreaking science fiction program of its kind, so already the bar is quite high for a story to rise from a crop of greatness. The 1970?s is one of the most loved eras of Doctor Who, so selecting what I consider to be classics from this era is no easy task.....

Byzantine Reality has Doctor Who and Philosophy, the first part of the book focuses on the topic of identity. With respect to the Doctor Who universe, the big questions revolve around how the various reincarnations of the Doctor can be the same person. Velvet Jacket has realeased a 2011 Calendar, "I've produced the calendar in A3 landscape format, so it can be hung on the wall. How you bind and hang it I'll have to leave up to you. You may be able to find somewhere that will spiral-bind the pages, or I've marked a couple of punch holes at the top so you can simply hang it with string or pins. Alternatively you could print it at 70% onto A4 or 50% onto A5 for smaller, desktop versions. You can download a PDF of the entire calendar, which should give better print quality. However, due to the large high resolution images, this is rather big, so I've also provided individual JPEGs of each page. Tea with Morbius has Dating The Seeds of Death: The Miles-Parkin Debate, for fans obsessed with continuity, the dating of The Seeds of Death is a key question. It is one of the few classic series stories that are set in the 21st century. One reason why this is a puzzling question is that one of the companions for this story is Zoe who is also from the 21st century. Is this story set in her past (in which case it is odd that she knows nothing of the events) or is it set in her near future (in which case, is there an older version of Zoe on earth at the same time as 15-20(?) year old Zoe?)?....

Tea with Morbius has The Ark in Space, Ridley Scott's Alien movie- We got there first, ...is the first story of the Hinchcliffe era. The first story of Season 12 was produced by Barry Letts, the outgoing producer. The Hinchcliffe era is seen by many fans as a golden era of Doctor Who. I differ from most fans in not holding this period in high regard. I certainly think it is the most consistent period in the show. While it had a few disasters, most notably The Android Invasion, on the whole it maintained high standards. However, the Hinchcliffe was far from as perfect as many fans would have you believe. There was something of an overreliance on borrowing plots from horror movies.....

Doc Oho's Big Finish audios reviews has Fear of the Daleks written by Patrick Chapman and directed by Mark J Thompson, Zoe is starting to remember travelling with a man called the Doctor and recalls the terrifying time the Daleks used her as an assassin…, what a shame that this story should be told from Zoe’s point of view because the writer adopts a very cold and clinical narrative approach that makes it very hard to penetrate the story. Zoe is having lucid dreams, nightmares of monsters and travels in time and space.

Media_http1bpblogspot_ubbhd

Doc Oho's Big Finish audios reviews also has Blue Tooth written by Nigel Fairs and directed by Mark J Thompson, "I suppose that was one of the Doctor's most endearing qualities: the ability to make the bizarre and the terrifying seem utterly normal." When Liz Shaw's friend Jean goes missing, the Doctor and U.N.I.T. are drawn to the scene to investigate. Soon Liz discovers a potential alien invasion that will have far-reaching affects on her life… and the Doctor is unexpectedly re-united with an old enemy…."

planetzogblog has A Christmas Carol review, the main storyline on the planet below though – Christmastime, “halfway out of the dark” – is not just a retelling of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol by the programme Doctor Who, it’s a conscious retelling by the Doctor himself – his plan for making Kazran someone who “suddenly decides to turn nice just for Christmas Day” (to operate the isomorphic control to guide the ship in) is a template from a book he’s read – a book by his old friend Dickens.

The Edwardian Adventurer has 057 – Inferno (The Romans Part 4), all road lead out of Rome in this episode as our heroes attempt to escape Nero’s newly secured palace.  Nero also hits upon a plan for urban redevelopment, this episode begins with the Nero I was wanting to see.  When Delos refuses to kill Ian in the fight, choosing instead to go for Nero, the centurions rush in to protect their emperor and kill the two combatants.  “Now they are fighting for their lives!” shouts Nero with glee.  Ian and Delos are forced to escape without Barbara.  Nero then decides to use Barbara as bait to lure them back, at which point they will all be killed.  He then executes a centurion who “didn’t fight hard enough.”  This feels like the Nero I have read about.  I think this story finally hit its stride!
