Miss Shaw and the moonbase...Elizabeth Shaw (known as Liz) was a companion of the The Third Doctor. She was attached to UNIT and assisted him soon after he regenerated, initially helping him to defeat the Nestene Consciousness in Spearhead from Space. She eventually left the Doctor, returning to Cambridge to continue her scientific research.
The Brigadier in Peru. Technically this could be Brigadier Winifred Bambera or any other brigadier the Doctor has encountered. But really, the Brigadier is Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. When the Doctor first met him he was a colonel - the same rank as Tia. However, when UNIT was formed he was promoted and put into a senior role within the new organisation. The Brigadier knew both Jo and Sarah Jane and was last seen in The Sarah Jane Adventures story, Enemy of the Bane. During the Sontarans' invasion of Earth the The Tenth Doctor was informed that the Brigadier was stranded in Peru... let's hope he's not been stuck there all this time!
'We've met Graske before!' The Graske first appeared in Attack of the Graske and have subsequently appeared in The End of Time, Part Two and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Jo's Husband. In The Green Death, Jo met and became engaged to Welshman Clifford Jones, a headstrong young professor who helped the Doctor defeat BOSS.
Metebelis 3. Travelling alone, the Third Doctor visited Metebilis III and took a blue crystal from the planet. He later returned there during the events of Planet of the Spiders and discovered Metebilis III was ruled by the evil 'Eight Legs'!
Jo in the Amazon. In Planet of the Spiders the Doctor received a package from Jo - the mysterious blue crystal from Metebilis III which she sent to England whilst on an expedition down the Amazon.
Sarah's Italian Job. Sarah Jane mentions a visit to San Martino, in Italy in 1482. This occurred during the The Fourth Doctor story, The Masque of Mandragora. The adventure saw the Doctor and Sarah battle the malevolent entity known as the Mandragora Helix whilst getting embroiled in the political chicanery of the treacherous Count Federico and his rogue soothsayer, Hieronymous.
The Monster Mash. At one point in Death of the Doctor, Sarah and Jo recall monsters they faced whilst travelling with the Time Lord. They mention...
Drashigs - huge, terrifying, non-humanoid creatures seen in Carnival of Monsters.
Axons - a race encountered by Jo and the Third Doctor. They initially appeared as golden, peaceful aliens but were in fact allies of the Master.
Ogrons - stupid, ape-like but physically powerful, the Ogrons were first seen in Day of the Daleks. They were servants of the Daleks but known to assist other warring species in battle - if the price was right.
Cybermen - Sarah encountered the merciless giants in Revenge of the Cybermen and The Five Doctors.
Daleks - Both Sarah and Jo encountered the Daleks, with Sarah facing them on several occasions including Journey's End and Genesis of the Daleks.
Azal - The evil Azal was summoned by the Master in The Daemons, a story featuring the The Third Doctor, Jo and the Brigadier. Jo's willingness to sacrifice herself in order to save the Doctor confused Azal to an insane extent. Unable to grasp what she was prepared to do for her friend, he self-destructed.
Aggedor and Peladon - See this week's Step back in Time.
