Eye Spy: 'Doctor Who' talent search announced

The BBC has confirmed that Matt Smith's replacement on Doctor Who will be cast via an X Factor-style talent contest. A spokesman told DS that the as-yet-untitled series, jointly hosted by Dermot O'Leary and Sylvester McCoy, will be "just like The X-Factor, as we hear that it's quite popular". The source added: "In the past, Doctor Who has suffered in the ratings when scheduled opposite The X-Factor. We're hoping to combat that this year by producing a show that combines the best bits of both." Stars rumoured to be participating in the talent hunt include former Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt and former X Factor stars Jedward. In a joint statement, the pop duo explained: "All the best Doctors had big hair. It's really key to the role, so we think we have a really good shot."
