Matt Smith's Christmas viewing

The Press Association

Matt Smith has revealed while everyone else looks forward to the Doctor Who Christmas Special, he loves watching Elf at this time of year.

The Doctor Who star is a big fan of the comedy movie, in which Will Ferrell plays one of Santa's elves, and counts it highly among his seasonal favourites.

Matt said: "I watched Elf yesterday which I love. Will Ferrell as Elf, he's pretty high up."

He went on: "The mean dude in Santa Claus: The Movie who flies - he eats the candy and he flies, he's amazing. I think Michael Caine as Scrooge in The Muppet Christmas Carol - pretty stellar... It's A Wonderful Life...

"Wallace and Gromit are probably up there somewhere as well, I remember seeing them on the TV as well."

The 28-year-old actor believes Christmas viewing is very important and is proud to be a part of it.

He said: "All the family are together and it's nice to sit down and watch a show together. To share and invest as a group of people in something, and I think it gives us all something to aim for.

"And Christmas adds that extra something to dinner, or to giving a gift, or to a tree. And I think it also does that to television and somehow when you're working on it and you're part of it I think you feel that somewhere."

Matt revealed even though he knows all the secrets of this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, he will still watch it on Christmas Day.

He said: "I shall watch it with my family and have a bit of dinner and stuff and then sit down and watch Doctor Who."
